Another fairly straightforward puzzle from Kcit which is on the easy side for a Toughie. Once I’d finished this puzzle I started on the one in today’s Times. That proved to be a real toughie and took me 3 or 4 times longer to complete than this one did. So if anyone feels like a challenge may I recommend today’s Times puzzle.

For the second day in a row I’ve got a Shamus puzzle to review. I was convinced that this was going to be a pangram after getting 10a and 12a – it isn’t but it does have some really good clues and I enjoyed it.

Hello from the Vega Baja. A pleasant, and not too hard, offering this week from our Wednesday Wizard. I seem to have used quite a bit of blue highlighter on this one so I’ve given it 4* for enjoyment.

Apart from a couple of answers, both of which were obvious from the wordplay, this could have easily been a back-page puzzle.

I made a complete dog’s breakfast of 1a at the start, but once I’d sorted that out this enjoyable puzzle by Shamus didn’t take overlong. How did you find it?

I also see that the Telegraph puzzles site continues to be a problem. If you are having trouble accessing it try a little later, and keep trying – eventually you should be able to log on.

As is unusual for the weekend prize crosswords, I (and not Big Dave) will select a few of the better clues and provide hints for them. Big Dave’s is not suffering the excesses of yesterday’s Sloggers and Betters Midland’s 2 meeting but is having troubles with his laptop at the moment.

I test-solved this crossword back in the April heat wave, but according to my notes at the time, I solved it in a deckchair in the hot sunny garden, found the top easier than the bottom and, with only a couple of queries, enjoyed the crossword very much.
