LabradorsruleOK

Steve Cowling has this very sad update on his friend and long-standing and much valued contributor to this blog, LabradorsruleOK:

I have had an email from Peter saying he is now quite ill. His cancer has returned and he suffered septicaemia from an infected gall bladder before Christmas. Unfortunately, he is too weak to have an operation and, in his own words, “Labs RuleOK has made his last post I am afraid”. He sends his good wishes to everyone on Big Dave and has asked me to say that the friendship he found on the blog means a great deal to him.

I will be keeping in touch with Peter to let him know that we are thinking of him and his family.

Steve Cowling

  1. Peter (LROK) has sent the following to me and asked me to post it.

“All I want to say is “Thank You” to all members of the blog. It has been such an important part of my life and for the enjoyment of it over the last few years I will always be grateful. Friends all, I thought of us as a community. We didn’t always agree but the exchanges were little highlights to the day. Of course, thanks to Mr. Ed and his setters for being able to set puzzles that even I could just manage (sometimes with help). All my best to all of you”.

  2. Steve, I am so sorry to hear that. We’ve all missed his blog contributions. Please pass on my best wishes to him.

  3. Sorry to hear that Steve, I always enjoyed and valued his pithy, laced with northern humour, contributions.
Sending my best wishes and sympathy to him and his family.

  4. I worried something like this was the case. Please pass on my very best wishes also to him up in Dornoch. His contributions to the blog will be much missed.

  5. I don’t post on here any more, but I am very sorry to hear this news, LROK as I knew him was great fun on the blog, a keen golfer and good ‘virtual’ friend.
Please pass on my best wishes to him.

  6. Steve, I am very saddened to hear that Peter is so ill. He and I enjoyed some very interesting views about American sports and the places he lived in the States. I have missed him and his witty posts over the past few months. Please let him know how much I have enjoyed his contributions to the blog and how much I personally enjoyed our friendship, albeit one that was quite long distance, from South Carolina to the north of Scotland, and though we never met I felt a kindred spirit there. My best wishes go out to him and his family.

    1. Robert, thank you for your input, that was so well said and so true, the feeling of true friendship albeit so far apart. I have missed his comments on the blog.

  7. Thank you to LabradorsruleOK for all your contributions — it’s been a pleasure to share a comments section with you. And especially for the thoughtfulness in taking the time to let us know and give us all a chance to say goodbye; that’s really appreciated when you must have so many other considerations right now.

    All the best!

(And thank you to Steve and Mr K for sharing this with us.)

  8. I am so sad to hear that LROK is so ill. I have missed him over the last months as his posts were always interesting .
Please give him my best wishes and thanks.

  9. Peter is a lovely man. When we were going through tough times with little Lola, he took the time and trouble to seek out my email address and sent me such kind thoughts and advice from his many years of caring for cats and dogs.

My very best, and warmest, thoughts are with Peter, Daphne, and their family.

  10. Very sad news. You have been a great contributor to the blog and, because of your illness, you have been and will continue to be missed. I very much enjoyed ‘talking’ golf with you.

    Thank you Peter.

  11. I have taken the liberty of sending a Jacquie Lawson card to Peter on behalf of everyone on the blog. The card can be viewed by following this link.

The message I put in was “To LabradorsRule OK Thinking of you and sending our best wishes. Everyone on Big Dave’s blog”.

I hope that is ok with everyone.

    1. Thank you so much Steve. That was most kind and thoughtful of you. JL ecards are beautiful.
I was very sad to read about LROC. I send my kindest wishes to him and to his family.

    2. Thank you Steve, he’ll love the Labrador bit. We exchanged many emails comparing labradors.

  12. Such sad news but thank you to both LROK and Steve for taking the time to keep us all in the picture. My thoughts go out to Peter and his family.

  13. This is very sorrowful news. I’d been wondering why we hadn’t heard much of LROK on here over the last few months, and now I know why. I miss reading his interesting comments. Best wishes and thoughts to him and his family at this very difficult time.

    * Thanks to SC for informing us of this situation, etc.

  17. I don’t post very often these days but I would like very much to send my best wishes to LROK and his family at this difficult time. Also, thanks to Steve for passing on LROK’s message.

  18. Dear LBROK,
We are probably physically just about as far distant from you as it is possible to be on the surface of our planet yet through this blog and our shared love of crosswords feel a real closeness to you.
All our kind thoughts and best wishes are with you and your family Peter.
    Love, Carol and Colin (2Ks).

  19. I’m also also a rare poster/commenter these days, but I too want to say how saddened I am to read this dreadful news. His comments were always worth reading and most constructive. Please add my best wishes to LROK. My thoughts prayers go with him.

  20. So very sorry to read this news. I’ve not posted on this site for more than a couple of years at most, but had always been drawn towards reading LROK’s posts, though I am very much an Unruly Springers person.

My thoughts and best wishes to LROK, and to his family.

  21. I am just another person who has always enjoyed reading the comments from Peter, and his presence here has been sorely missed. Sad news indeed. Clearly a very nice man through and through. My thoughts and prayers are with Peter, his family and of course Biggles.

  22. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear this news. Sending warm thoughts to Peter and his family.

  23. My sympathy to Peter and family. I have had many a chat with LBROK, mainly aboult the sixteen men of Tain over the estuary and of course Biggles and his exploits. Thanks to Steve for such a nice card and for keeping in touch.

  24. This is very distressing news. I had noticed LROK’s absence in recent months but I hoped that it wasn’t due to health reasons, I’m so extremely sad to hear that it is.

My very best wishes to Peter and his family.

  25. Thank you, Steve.
It’s very much appreciated to let us on the blog know of the of the state of Peter’s illness.
This is so sad. I have had several chats on the blog and on emails, too, over several years since getting to know him. We had in common our enjoyment of crosswords, the love of our dogs – his Labrador and our Collie – but also of anyone who is part of a close family.
I send my regards to all his family.

  26. Peter has sent this to everyone.
