Three weeks ago I remember saying that by today I would have learnt how to put pictures in – somehow that hasn’t quite happened so apologies if there aren’t any and thanks to BD if there are. Moving on to the crossword as quickly as possible, I found this pretty tricky – I enjoyed it too – I’m more than happy for anyone to disagree with me.

Another great Sunday crossword – solving it took me slightly longer than usual, hence the 3* difficulty rating.

I found this one a bit of a slog with not a lot to lighten the mood and some of the clues are not very smooth. Also, I’m not at all sure that I’ve fully understood 24a so any better interpretation for that would be welcome.

We thought this puzzle from Jay was a lot of fun so have upped the enjoyment rating. It took us about average time to solve and parse so *** for difficulty.
Last week we mentioned asparagus in our intro. There were lots of comments but nobody mentioned green pees (not a typo!). Congratulations on being so restrained.
Today, in the Dominion-Post from Wellington, the first puzzle we blogged, 27603, has appeared. We wonder if this will prompt Kiwi lurkers to make a comment.

Monthly Prize Puzzle No 29 (October 2014) by Radler

Congratulations to Lynn Chua who successfully navigated her way through Radler’s Monthly Prize Crossword. I fancy that the number of entries were on the low side this month as this was a decidedly difficult crossword. Solvers had to find seven across clues where a letter was removed from the definition given by the wordplay leaving a valid word to enter into the grid. I have highlighted the relevant clues in bold.

It is rumoured that Giovanni has strong words to say about crossword blogs in the forthcoming update of his beloved manual. If he continues to produce puzzles like this one then it is not surprising that the Arsène Wenger* of Crosswordland gets bad reviews.

Good morning from a very windswept North Devon. I thought that this enjoyable puzzle was pretty straightforward but the Telegraph Puzzles site has been showing four stars for difficulty all morning so I’ve compromised and given it 3*. Do let us know what you thought of it and how you got on.

Our nine day thousand mile road trip involving two weddings and a funeral is over and will hopefully never be repeated. Today we have another excellent offering from Rufus with some odd twists on familiar words. Definitions are underlined and I hope you can understand my ramblings.
My favourite clue is 20 down and my thanks go out to pommers and Merusa for teaching me about Els, Ens and Ems. Thanks also to Tstrummer for the Nuts and Muttons.
