Today is National Cat Herding Day. A day for those of us who feel like we’re tasked with the impossible, Cat Herders Day recognises the frustration of trying to manage the unmanageable. Whether it’s work, home, school or other areas of life, if it feels like herding cats, today’s your day. I rather hoped Rufus would have an answer with a feline slant today to fit with the video clip I have had to use at 25d
I dedicate this day to those amongst you who feel like that when solving cryptic crossword puzzles.

I found this puzzle quite difficult and due to time constraints had to call upon Big Dave for the answers to 1a 2d and 18d and to add the pictures. Thank you Big Dave.

Today is National Indulgence Day in England. Not Scotland, Wales or anywhere else, Just England. So no indulging yourselves anywhere else. As you can see from the blog, I have exercised my right to indulge. Welcome to our identical twins and regular alarm clocks Itchy and Scratchy who are supposed to be kittens but spend most of their time imitating a barrel full of monkeys which brings enjoyment aplenty. On Saturday Coventry Rugby Football Club annihilated the previously unbeaten table topping Ealing Trailfinders by 32 points to 26 which made me even happier. Saint Sharon adds happiness in abundance, her 48 hour online shopping marathon which resulted in the acquisition of a new kitchen bin needed to be seen to be believed. I wish you all well.
Today’s crossword is a mix of wonderful clues with several old chestnuts. I don’t think it will trouble many of you. No pencils were harmed in the production of this review

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we’re so glad you can attend, come inside come inside. There are a couple of stand out brilliant clues here today but they are over shadowed by an abundance of anagrams hence the lowering of my enjoyment level. The double definition count is high too. A red level chestnut alert is also in place.

A mixed bag from Rufus today with nothing too strenuous. We do have rather a lot of strong alcoholic spirits but we can temper the effects of such with the water and food Rufus has kindly provided at 27 and 15 across.

I thought this a little bland until I started to parse the clues and realised just how many clever clues and misdirections there are. I have waited a while for the chance to include the video clip at 10 across and the reference to Alice gave me the opportunity. Thank you Rufus for that. As we have a few musical references in the puzzle today I have gone with a musical theme to the blog. I hope you like it.

I solved and reviewed this early today because Saint Sharon wants to see The Poppies at The Tower Of London. I didn’t know they did gigs at The Tower and I have no idea what songs The Poppies sang. I suppose she has to get her own back for the number of times I have inflicted Bob Dylan and Van Morrison upon her. Wish me luck. An excellent and tricky puzzle today which took a little longer than usual especially the North East (Top Right) corner.

Our nine day thousand mile road trip involving two weddings and a funeral is over and will hopefully never be repeated. Today we have another excellent offering from Rufus with some odd twists on familiar words. Definitions are underlined and I hope you can understand my ramblings.
My favourite clue is 20 down and my thanks go out to pommers and Merusa for teaching me about Els, Ens and Ems. Thanks also to Tstrummer for the Nuts and Muttons.

One moment we are singing and the next we cry with pain.
