A message from Guardian setter Boatman:
By popular request, my next Crossword Masterclass will take place in the Midlands. We’ll have the use of a quiet, airy room in the Priory Rooms complex, which is part of the Friends’ Meeting House in Birmingham’s interesting city centre, where lunch will be laid on and there’ll be good coffee, teas, juice, fruit and other goodies available all day. I’m looking forward to a stimulating class, with a group of people representing a range of experience, from self-confessed dabblers to those who are starting to have their work published. I hope you’ll join us, and learn a lot about compiling from me and from each other.

I’d be interested to know if any of my fellow Rookies are thinking of attending, or if indeed they have done so in the past. Personally, I don’t think I can justify the expense – or face the embarrassment of telling people what my plans for that weekend are! – but it does sound like a fun day out.
It makes me appreciate afresh the fact that Big Dave, Prolixic and the other reviewers, and all the people who take the time to comment on our efforts in Rookie Corner, are providing a very valuable service to us for free. Many thanks!
