Times Setters’ Lunch – 24 June

In the years before Covid struck, Big Dave always used to organise an S&B Gathering at the George in Southwark on the same day as the Times Crossword Setters gathered for their annual lunch.  Most people used to arrive around lunchtime and then wait for the setters to come to the pub.

As you will see from the message below from NYDoorknob/Donnybrook, the lunch is taking place on 24th June and, as he says, it would be an excellent opportunity for everyone to get together again to talk about crosswords, and reminisce.

The Times Compilers’ lunch is at News on Tuesday 24th June 2025, with potential postprandial shenanigans at The George in London Bridge.

The Timesian troop usually descends from on high (the 17th floor) at around 1600, but by then there’s usually a veritable throng gathered at the pub.

Hopefully that will be the case this year, after what seems to have been an inordinately long time. Covid and other tragedies seem to have interrupted the flow of meets somewhat, and 24th June offers a great opportunity for us all to put that right.

Hope to see as many of you as possible there.

Cheers
NYDK

  1. I live in Canada so I cannot attend but will there be any puzzles at this gathering? if so will they be made available?

    1. I wouldn’t have thought so. Just a chance to meet up and then chat with the setters

  2. I am tempted to go. It was at one of these events 8 years ago when I met Big Dave for the first time and he encouraged me to send a puzzle to Rookie Corner. It was lovely to rub shoulders with the great and the good of the crossword community, so if there are more takers from the BD community, I will probably attend.

  3. Oh fiddle di dee. 24th June is my birthday (91!) and although I’m not busy until the evening I dare say I will be getting callers all day. But a lovely thought and I hope you have a great day. I will do the splits for you on face time!

  4. I shall be joining m’colleague Donnybrook at the lunch, looking forward to meeting up with everyone for post prandial drinks at The George.
