We are 7 (Jan 2016)

Birthday Bash

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

OK, we won’t be 7 until 28th January!  Tables are booked and the deposit has been paid, so now I can confirm what we already knew – our 7th Birthday Bash will be at the same venue as last year.  Come along and join us at The Bridge House, 13 Westbourne Terrace Road, London, W2 6NG on the 30th January – any time between 12 noon and 7.00 pm.

All are welcome (that means you!) and, as usual, we have picked a pub that enables you to enjoy a host of real ales.  Click on either of the pictures for further details of the venue.

Only ten minutes walk from Paddington Station

It is all very accessible, in case anyone has special needs.

  1. By hook or by crook (or even British Rail) I’m intending to be there. Probably need to book somewhere for the Friday and Saturday night – shame that The George doesn’t have bedrooms!
So looking forward to meeting everyone. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif
Where are my manners – thank you for dealing with all the arrangements, BD. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_good.gif

      1. There I go – getting all over-excited again, just like when I won the MPP and forgot to give you my address.
Yes – I really do know where I’m heading for, just remains to be seen whether I actually finish up there! http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

  2. My beloved Coventry Rugby Club have a home fixture on that day. What could possibly drag me away from that? It would need to be something really special.

    1. Having met Cryptic Sue, Kath, Kitty, and a few others I know that they are special. I have never met you or Hanni, you are unknown creatures to me, and possibly hostile. Tha rugby is winning at the moment.

        1. If he does turn up, you’ll find he wins the award for the man who least resembles their blog ‘personality’ – strange but fortunately true.

  3. I shall be there. I think it is the France Show at Olympia that weekend also. If there are any Francophiles who want to do both and make a weekend of it – I can probably forward free tickets.

    1. I (Paso) lived in Paris for 10 years and we (Paso Doble) pop over to the other side of the channel as often as possible. We would love to get a couple tickets. You might be called weekendwanda but we are definitely weekend wanderers….

  4. I hope all goes well, Congratulations to BD for all his great work running the site. Unfortunately I can’t attend as it clashes with our Squash Handicap Tournament which I am organising.

  5. It will be my birthday on the 27th, but unfortunately we will be in Tenerife that weekend. I would have loved to be able to put faces to ‘names’ but that delight will have to wait for another occasion.

  6. I don’t think I have ever booked a flight so much in advance.
And I just love landing at City airport. Bang in the middle of the Thames. Always reassuring to have water around. ” In the unlikely event of landing on water… Blah blah blah”.
    See you there.

        1. I thought it was funny. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif

Then again there’s no accounting for the things I find funny. The fact my friend fell snowboarding and fractured three ribs can still reduce me to tears laughing…and that was nearly two years ago.

          1. I thought it was funny too. And the French are champions at laughing when people fall… within reason of course.

            1. I try to feel bad about it but can’t. Different if he’d been seriously hurt of course. Nope…still funny.

              1. As Jack Benny once remarked, with his impeccable timing: “There is absolutely nothing funny about a lady stepping on a banana skin and falling over … Unless it is a very old lady.”

    1. Hey. Great. Looking forward to meeting you again. Your crossword from last year is still in my car. Eritrea if I remember well

  7. Looking forward to meeting you all! The George only seemed like a week ago; my how Time Flies!

  8. Count me in. I hope to be able to pace myself better than last year, when the variety of real ales got the better of me far too quickly. Folk were still arriving as I staggered off into the night.

    1. Glad to see that you made it home from the flesh-pots of Liverpool and, hopefully, the wedding is still going ahead?
Now then – about this birthday party. I reckon that if we smokers do it on a one-for-one basis, we should get enough cold fresh air to see us through. Failing that, we’ll have to resort to a lot of taxi-sharing!
Presumably crossword solving is not obligatory on this occasion?

        1. That was my principle too – but at York, I confess to truly enjoying co-solving puzzles with Bufo.

      1. The Liverpool weekend was extraordinary in almost every way, but I was a very good boy – and so were my boys. Fun was had and nobody disgraced himself. The wedding is going ahead (on December 27!) in the fleshpots of the New Forest. Goodness knows why, they live in Farnborough.

      2. PS very much looking forward to meeting you at last. I’ll be the one with the rolled up copy of the Times and a pink carnation in my buttonhole

  9. Really sorry but I won’t be able to make the 7th Birthday Celebrations on the 30th January 2016. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif
The good bit about missing it all is that on that date we will be flying from New Zealand where we will have been for nine days, hopefully including a couple of days or so with the 2Kiwis, to Australia. All very exciting! http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

    1. PS – I’m sure you’ll all have a great day – please raise a glass, at least one, to me as I will to all of you. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_smile.gif

    2. Fair play Kath – I think I speak for many that you will be missed http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif.

However, a chance to visit NZ and Australia is not to be missed. I hope you (& Mr K?) have a wonderful time.

BTW – Please make sure you send some money to the Bridge House bar to buy us all a drink http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wink.gif

      1. Agree with SL Kath. It’s the only way. Send enough for a glass of a decent white. Wish she was going. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif

    3. Unacceptable. Ok fair enough in a sense but you’ll be missed Kath. Have a wonderful time and promise to be at the next one. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_rose.gif

    4. Trying really hard to be happy for you, Kath, I know you’ll have a brilliant time but – I so wish you were going to be at the birthday party. Doesn’t seem right somehow. http://bigdave44.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cry.gif

    5. You will be sorely missed, and not just by me. I remember that last year you were not in a very good place and I was too real-aled to be of much use. This time, you will be in a much better place – or at least on the way to one.

    6. You would not get me on an aeroplane for that long Kath. Not never ever. I do hope you enjoy your trip though, just not my scene. Are the blogs covered. I would love a pop at a RayT

      1. Now that’s funny! But only if you use the New Standard Livingston Rules.

Train tickets sorted. A minion will book the hotel when I pick one.

        Uckers.

  10. Unfortunately we can’t be in the Uk at the end of January – January not a good month for us visiting the UK as we “do” both mothers for their birthdays.

Have a great day and a happy birthday party

  11. Tickets booked – now looking forward to celebrating the birthday of a great site, catching up with those I know and saying hello to those I don’t. Roll on the 30th!

  12. Hello – is it too late to express an interest in coming along to this? Your site has been instrumental in my progress over the last 4 years, it would be great to meet you all!

  13. Unless anything drastic happens in the meantime I will be present on the day.Really looking forward to it.

    1. Welcome to the blog (haven’t you been here before?? I was surprised to see you in ‘moderation’)

      See you on Saturday

      1. Maybe I didn’t call myself Verlaine last time round? Not sure…

Would it be okay to bring my kids for some of this event, do you think, or is that the kind of faux pas that gets people permanently debarred from Big Dave’s good books?

  14. The BD site seems to be misbehaving at the moment – hopefully it will reach its 7th Birthday in its full glory!

Hope you all have a nice time!

  15. I should be there for a couple of hours early afternoon and looking forward to seeing everyone.

  16. Like Beet, I shall be there for a short while from 12 onwards and this time hope to stay long enough to enjoy a slice of cake (or two) …

Look forward to seeing many familiar names and increasingly familiar faces

  17. Happy Birthday!

    I am celebrating already. Hic!

Many thanks to BD and all the wonderful contributors who together make this site what it is.

    :rose:

  18. And a very happy blog birthday from me as well. Just one complaint – there aren’t enough candles on the banner!!!

  19. Thanks and congratulations to Big Dave and all contributors to this site.. A great achievement and an enjoyable resource. Enjoy your celebration.

  20. Congratulations and warmest Birthday wishes to this most splendid Blog. Have an excellent 7th Birthday celebration! :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

  21. Am I alone in not being able to read ‘a host of real ales’ without seeing it as a definition of ‘Bridge House landlord’?
Thanks, as always, for your comments today.
    JP

  22. Mrs Elgar will be representing us today (although her 815 train apparently hasn’t yet left York Station). It’s my turn for the hound, so sorry I won’t be there.

Those of you who purchase the Saturday Indy will see a wee toast from the IQ ed (inside back page of Sport section).

    Have fun, all!

    John

  23. Leaving Brighton shortly, should be there by 2.30. I wonder if I will spot a bunch of cruciverbalists who I have never met or laid eyes on before! The prospect of nice ales is also something to look forward to, having managed a 5km running race and a spin class this morning, so it’s an action packed day all round :)

    Simon

  24. I’m sorry, but I have to cry off. I have a streaming cold and you really don’t want me there sniffling and sneezing all over you, and I really don’t fancy being out and about in this weather (I’m still recovering from having gone across the road to get the paper).

yppah yppah yppah yppah yppah yppah to the blog.
