I was pleased to get an Elkamere today and it turned out to be a proper Toughie which was most enjoyable and most challenging. I filled the left-hand side in without too much difficulty but it took me a long time to get a decent toehold in the right-hand side.

Not one of my favourite puzzles. In my opinion, answers like 30a don’t really belong on the back page.

When I found out (last night) that today’s Toughie setter was to be Kcit I checked out what I’d written about his most recent Toughies and I could really just write “ditto” for this one. The puzzle is fine, it has some good clues, but basically it doesn’t rate as a Toughie and therefore I didn’t enjoy it that much. Now that we no longer seem to get Toughies from Busman, Campbell or Cephas, Kcit’s puzzles are the easiest Toughies – that’s my view. Discuss!

Hola from the Vega Baja, where Autumn has set in – jeans, socks and rugby shirt required today!
A super puzzle today from the Wednesday Wizard with some fantastic clues. I thought it a bit trickier than his recent offerings but very entertaining and I nearly gave it 5* for enjoyment, but that might be just due to my mood at the moment. A few ‘D’ohs’ and a few bangs of the head on the table as the pennies dropped but that may be due to having visitors and therefore more than the usual excessive alcohol intake!

I found this Warbler Toughie to be harder than many of her recent offerings. Maybe it was because I am not a great fan of building up answers letter by letter, as was the case in several of the clues.

We have a not too strenuous workout today from one of our unknown setters. Let us know how you got on in a comment.
The answers are present, but hidden between the curly brackets under the clues. Just highlight the space between the brackets to reveal one.
Congratulations to Tilsit and his team on last night’s excellent performance. Can they go all the way?

A usual Monday crossword from Rufus that should be enjoyed by most. My only niggle is that its a bit of a cornery grid. I will not try to comment on what happened in the semi-final on Saturday, but even in France, the French think the wrong team won.
