There’s little more I can say about Jay’s puzzles. Just enjoy solving this one.

This is the first time I have blogged a Tuesday crossword, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am pretty sure (even though 27a is (6,5)) that this is one of Ray T’s. Gazza informs me that today’s Toughie is easier than the normal cryptic. So today is probably a good day to have a go at the Toughie as well.
If the hint is not enough to give you the answer – highlight the space between the curly brackets.

Libellule is powerless this morning, so he and I have swapped and he’ll be tussling with tomorrow’s setter. It’s a cliché to say that Rufus provides us with a nice, gentle start to the week, but that’s exactly what he does. The puzzle may not be as difficult as some we’ll get later in the week, but mixed in with the easy clues are some excellent cryptic definitions – just what I needed, in fact, on a miserable, dark, rainy morning. My dog had the right idea – he took one look outside then went straight back to bed.
Please feel free to let us know your thoughts in a comment, and if you need to see an answer highlight the space between the brackets under the relevant clue.

As is usual for the weekend prize crosswords, I will select a few of the better clues and provide hints for them.
Don’t forget that you can give your assessment of the puzzle. Five stars if you thought it was great, one if you hated it, four, three or two if it was somewhere in between.
A full review of this puzzle will be published on Thursday, 9th September.

We have a pretty typical Giovanni today, with well-constructed clues and a few “aha” moments. Let us know what you liked, or disliked, about it in a comment.
Those wanting to see the answers should drag their cursors through the white space between the brackets under the clues.

I found this to be a toughie of above-average difficulty. There were some nice touches but I thought it was spoilt by some rather dodgy anagram indicators.

I know that giving this puzzle two stars for difficulty will not please many, but I have based this on my solving time and the fact that, apart from two clues which caused me an extra moment’s thought, I had no trouble at all with this excellent offering from Cephas. Just the right mix of clue types to produce an entertaining Saturday puzzle.

Certainly one of the better Thursday puzzles. The wordplay for 5a threw me for a while but I smiled when I eventually got it.
