Hello, everyone, and welcome to Friday. I found this puzzle a joy to solve and to hint, full of smiles and tight cryptic grammar that made writing the hints easy.  I do hope that our setter will drop in later to claim it. Thanks to everyone who wrote kind words in comments following Wednesday’s web site issues – very much appreciated. I’m still not sure what caused the problem. Growing pains, perhaps. Hello, everyone, and welcome to Friday. I felt that this puzzle offered a few original twists and turns when it came to defining well-used answers. That always adds to the enjoyment. I’m not good at identifying setters, but since today’s grid contains every letter except X, it’s likely that this fine puzzle is the work of proXimal. Continue reading "DT 30580"

Hello, everyone.  I felt miles off the setter’s wavelength today, with no flow at all as I worked on completing the X-less grid. But in hindsight there is nothing here that’s obscure or even unusually complex, so perhaps I’m just out of practice. I look forward to reading what others thought.  Continue reading "DT 30538"

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Friday. I’m in New Zealand this week, so I’m experiencing the disorienting sensation of writing the hints for Friday’s puzzle on a Friday evening. The puzzle felt a little more straightforward than recent Friday offerings, making for a steady and very enjoyable solve. The grid uses every letter except Z. I have no idea if that has any significance. Continue reading "DT 30532"
