We have waited since last October for this latest magnum opus from Myops – and it was well worth the wait. Tilsit is back in hospital so has missed out on this truly magnificent Toughie.

The normal order seems to have been restored, and this Giovanni puzzle is, for me, the most difficult of the week as well as having some very entertaining clues. Let us know how you found it in a comment!
If you need to see an answer just drag your cursor through the space between the brackets under the clue.

Morning All!. I was not sure on the day if this was a Cephas or not but having reviewed it I am pretty sure that it is – and a good one at that. The number of charade type clues convinced me. Continue reading “DT 26486”

At first I thought I was going to breeze through this but then I slowed down markedly. In the end I marked it as of average difficulty.

One of our mystery setters has presented us with an excellent puzzle today. I was a bit slow getting started, having guessed 1 across but missing the significance of the shopping chain until the down clues confirmed the letters.

If we get a Micawber (or an Elgar or a Notabilis) on a Wednesday it seems to mean a puzzle with all the cleverness and wit of these setters but not quite as fiendish in terms of wordplay as we’ve come to expect of them on a Friday – that’s fine by me. I enjoyed it a great deal when I solved it and I enjoyed it all over again when I wrote the review; I hope you enjoyed it too – let us know in a comment.

[The latest addition to our blogging team is someone who should already be well-known by all. No less than pommers, ably assisted in the technical department by pommette, faces, as he described it yesterday, his “baptism of fire”. He really had no need to worry, as I’m sure you will agree when you have read his review. BD]
Woke up this morning a bit nervous as it’s my debut in the Land of Blog!
All sorts of questions – What happens if I can’t solve the crossword? or don’t understand some of the wordplay? or worse – the DT crossword editor has an aberration and accidently publishes an Elgar Toughie as today’s cryptic! Aargh!
I needn’t have worried as the Wednesday Wizard has come up trumps once again!
A nice mix of clues and some which make one think a bit. I’ve given it 3* for overall difficulty (based on my solving time) but there are a few clues definitely in the 4* category. I’ve marked my favourites in blue.

As has been commented elsewhere, as Toughies go this one was a bit too easy. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable.

Shamus has warned us that he’s not always pangrammatic but this one is a pangram. I was hovering between two and three stars for difficulty – but I ended up with three on the basis that it’s harder than today’s Toughie. Let us know what you think.
There’s no Welsh theme in today’s puzzle so I was on the look-out for a clue which would give me an excuse for honouring St. David’s Day – I had to wait until the very end to find one.
Just highlight the space between the brackets under the clue if you want to see an answer.
