Hola from the Vega Baja. A real piece of Wednesday wizardry today! Some very clever clues, good surfaces and some great ‘penny drop’ moments! I’ve given 3* for difficulty but I’ll leave that up to you to comment on. I don’t actually know my solving time as I got into the website, clicked print and it chucked me out. 45 minutes later, when I finally got back in and the puzzle opened, the clock was already running from my first attempt!

Today’s puzzle is not too exacting and doesn’t have many “penny drop” moments. Let us know your thoughts in a comment.
If you want to see an answer just drag your cursor through the space between the brackets under the clue.

Tilsit is on holiday in the Lake District today, so I am filling in for him. A very enjoyable puzzle with some clues that needed a fair bit of unravelling.

Crypticsue is having a day off, splashing through the rain in her wellies, but she has checked out the Toughie for us and tells me that it’s not as tough as many Fridays. She urges everyone to have a go at it because it has lots that made her smile.

Morning All! This was a funny old puzzle – very straightforward to solve but it had a lot of very smooth and apposite surface readings and a few very good spots in terms of synonyms or cryptic definitions. I for one really enjoyed it.

This was a real Toughie. I struggled with it for quite some time and think it almost merits 4½ stars for difficulty. The answers are all single words and that always makes life harder for the solver. Personally I’d prefer some multiword answers but that is not Beam’s style.
