A Toughie of the kind we have been used to on a Tuesday. Although it was not particularly hard, I made life difficult for myself by trying to fit 13 across into a (5,2,5) pattern instead of (5,7)!

This is somewhat of a mixed bag today. It has some really good clues but a few that I thought were a bit “iffy”. There are also a high number of anagrams (my particular bugbear). Let us know your views in a comment.

Tilsit is unavailable today, so I’m filling in. Once again he has missed reviewing a superb puzzle. Myops is a retired Classics master (at a school in Glasgow) and his background shows through into his puzzles.

This week’s Saturday puzzle split the camp between those like me who found it easy solving and others who struggled to get sort out the wordplay and find the solutions. Thank you to the Saturday Mysteron – the clue I liked the best was 7d.

This puzzle was fair enough but it was by no means up to the standard that we have become accustomed to over the past couple of weeks. As usual with MynoT puzzles there is a theme.
{All the answers contain the letter “B”. I wonder if he’s going to work his way through the consonants. If so I look forward to The “J”, “Q” and “X” puzzles.} Select the space between the curly brackets to reveal the theme.

I’ve stopped trying to submit puzzles on the website except when I’m blogging (because I’m fed up with getting “Error 0”), but it’s just as well I did this morning because my answer to 25d was rejected – see below.
Apart from that we have a not too taxing but entertaining puzzle from Notabilis. It seems to be the rule now that when setters like Micawber and Notabilis appear mid-week their puzzles are quite a bit gentler than when they turn up on Fridays.
Notabilis usually manages to smuggle something extra into his puzzles just to keep us on our toes and today there are four sets of linked answers (13/14a, 22/23a, 3/15d and 16/26d). If there’s anything else, I’ve failed to spot it.
