Today is Friday the Thirteenth so was this to be an omen for a devilishly difficult puzzle? Well not really – this one is well towards the easier end of Giovanni’s range, although as usual a little bit of general knowledge is very helpful. I can’t say that I enjoyed it a great deal, but I’d like to hear your views.
If you need to see an answer just highlight the space between the curly brackets under the clues – if you’re using a hand-held device then some assistance on how to do the revealing can be found in the FAQ.

For me this was one of the best Saturday Prize Puzzles for some time.   An enjoyable solve with a very nice mix of clues and, for me,  double the fun as it was my turn for the review.   Thanks very much to Cephas for a great start to Easter Saturday.

This turned out to be a gentle solve which posed no significant problems. There is a bit of a theme in that 16, 21, 7, 14, 3 and 27 form a sequence.

Dangers of a Water Shortage

I thought that this was a fairly tough tussle for a Wednesday but it was one that I enjoyed battling through, although a few of the clues do seem a bit “clunky”. There’s a theme running through the puzzle relating to a nursery rhyme dealing with the dangers involved in trying to circumvent the hosepipe ban.

Hola from the Mar Menor this week.  I’m not at home today so I had to solve this online, so maybe that’s why I slipped into 3* time. In general it’s not that hard but there are a couple of tricky ones that had me scratching the head for a while. Hope you all remembered to start with the downs! Maybe it’s just me but it didn’t strike me as one of Jay’s most entertaining puzzles, or perhaps it’s because I had to do it outside on a rather chilly balcony as the dongle doesn’t work inside the apartment!

Well there’s a surprise!!

Due to a Daily Telegraph Bank Holiday ‘problem’  meaning that the printed version in the paper was the Osomosis due next week, we have the treat of two Toughies in one day.   This one was slightly  tougher than the Warbler but just as entertaining.

[This puzzle was published in the newspaper as Toughie 758 on the day that Toughie 751 should have appeared.  It is available online as GK 7588.  BD]

If you are in Scotland (or lots of other places!) and have been given Toughie 758 by mistake, drop me a line and I’ll send you a pdf of today’s puzzle!

The puzzle published as Toughie 758 is now available online as GK 7588 – available via latest puzzles.

Warbler has given us the usual fairly easy start to the Toughie week. There are two sets of answers which are linked to 14 across and 19 down respectively.

We have a pretty gentle easing back into the daily grind after the Bank Holiday. I don’t think that this will cause too many problems. Let me know how you got on.
Cryptic Sue has asked me to tell you that she is enjoying a tramp today and cannot give her Toughie Tip in person, but her view is that anyone who thinks that they couldn’t possibly solve a Toughie should definitely have a go at today’s because they’ll never have a better opportunity.
