Hola from the Vega Baja where July has arrived with a bang. As I write this it’s only 0900 and the temperature is already 28°C with a top of 32°C forecast for this afternoon.
Today we have a typical Monday puzzle which is mostly fairly easy but with a handful of head scratchers. There are seven anagrams and some of them are quite long so if you can crack them you’ll get a load of checkers to get you going. I don’t think many of you will be needing these hints.

I stared at a virtually empty grid for ages until the pennies started to drop, but that was a real toughie. On the grounds of difficulty, I am struggling to leave any unhinted but here we go. I will try and toss in a bonus pic hints but as most of Sunday so far has been spent wrestling with this I may be brief. This won’t get the baby bathed so here we go…

After almost two years and ninety-five puzzles the Numpties are taking a well-deserved break this month. I am delighted to have been offered the role of locum tenens, and I’m looking forward to being your guide as we navigate a path through the next five puzzles. The prefix to the title of today’s offering suggests that it could be the start of a linked series – time alone will tell (‘cos I won’t!).
