You can rely on Silvanus for precise cluing, and this puzzle is no exception. I particularly like the discovery as to how the answer to 2 Down could be derived and the anagram at 21 Across. Continue reading “Toughie 2339”

Hello, everyone.  Today has brought us another excellent Tuesday puzzle – accessible without being trivial, and offering plenty of smiles during the solve.  It also felt fresh, which is not surprising given that the last five Tuesday puzzles, including today's, have been created by five different compilers.  If today's setter is reading, we'd all love to see a comment from you below so we can thank you in person, as it were.  Continue reading "DT 29218"

Having a ‘couple of beers with Craig’ wasn’t the best start to Sunday. Having ‘a couple more’ back at The Green Man didn’t help. Ah, Sparks having fun again. A very enjoyable puzzle. There is a theme indicated by a Nina. How many did you count? I’m not super-keen on the reverse Polish notation (1d, 3d, 6d, 14d), but plenty to make up for that, and the theme always raises a smile.… Continue reading

Morning All! As mst people remarked on the day this was a rather gentle solve but there were some great surface readings and also a large number of very good cryptic defiitions.
