Tilsit is away this weekend on a jolly. As many of you know, Myops is one of my favourite Toughie setters, so I looked forward to this puzzle with eager anticipation. And what a joy it turned out to be.

For me this was the hardest back-page puzzle of the week (as Friday’s is supposed to be). It has some easy clues to get you started and then some which, if you’re like me, you have to think a bit harder about. Thanks to Giovanni for the entertainment.

A fairly average crossword from the Saturday Mysteron this week. Nothing to make me smile or grump too much when solving until preparing the review when, having typed ‘A from the clue’ for the sixth time, I scrolled back up the page and reduced the enjoyment factor to 2*. A steady solve with no hold-ups. The only minor problem I had was in getting my head round and unravelling some of the longer clues. The setter gets low marks for conciseness

Greetings from Ottawa where it was still October 31 when I sat down to write this review which means that it is Halloween, a night when people dress up in scary costumes and children go door to door extorting candy from residents in return for a promise not to do damage (trick or treat). We have also been experiencing the tail end of Hurricane Sandy. Fortunately for us, the storm had expended most of its destructive force by the time it arrived here and we are only getting some moderately high winds and a couple of days of rain.
Today’s puzzle from RayT seems to be rather on the tame side. Having blazed through three quadrants, I was ready to award it two stars for difficulty when I became seriously mired in the southwest corner. As a result, I bumped the rating up a tad. The puzzle is relatively devoid of anagrams so I know some folks will likely be disappointed.
