I am not sure what to make of this. Some of you will love it and some of you will dislike it. Personally I am in the I disliked it camp. I found the cryptic definitions to be poor (except perhaps 6d), and except for a couple of clues found nothing particularly inventive. By the time I had finished it I wondered why I had bothered. Usually blogging the crossword is an enjoyable exercise, this was more like a chore.

Anyway, feel free to leave comments regarding your thoughts on today’s crossword. As usual if you want to reveal the answers directly, highlight the space between the curly brackets.

Anything to Declare?

The number of visits to the site hit an all-time high yesterday – perhaps it’s because more people are staying in due to the weather. If that is the case then we may be in for another record today, because we’re virtually snowed in where I am, having had about 10 inches of the white stuff already this morning.
I found this puzzle quite tricky but an enjoyable challenge. Please let us know how you liked it with a comment, and please remember to click on one of the five stars below to show how much you enjoyed it.

Tilsit has gone back to see the nurses again, so I am doing today’s review.  An enjoyable puzzle where all of the answers are fair and obtainable with a little thought.

I found this puzzle a little harder than some Sunday ones, even on a second solve after mislaying my original copy. 9A in particular kept me guessing for quite a while both times, and I’m pretty sure it was my last answer first time around. Even after the thematic extravaganza just before Christmas, there’s still some seasonal material, with wassailing at 16D and two lots of shopping (6D, 21D).

A comparatively easy puzzle from Kcit – light relief for some after today’s daily cryptic!  Well-clued crosswords are usually very straightforward, and this one is no exception.

Particular favourite clues are highlighted in blue.

It’s snowing quite heavily here now, so it’s very pleasant to sit in the warm drinking a cup of coffee and writing this review, whilst stealing a glance at the Christmas card scene outside.
The puzzle has all the hallmarks of a Ray T composition – tight surface readings, a few smiles and one belly laugh. I think that it’s slightly easier than his usual offerings, so I’ve given it only two stars for difficulty – of course you may disagree, and if you do (or even if you don’t) we’d love to get a comment from you.
(Regular readers will get fed up with reading this bit, but please remember that we have new readers joining us all the time.) The answers are hidden inside the curly brackets – just highlight the white space inside the brackets to reveal.

The expected smattering of Caledonian verbal specialities made this a challenging solve in a few places but at least – now I’m becoming familiar with this setter’s style – I was on the lookout for them.

Unusually I’ve given this five stars for difficulty, and I can only base that on solving time; this one kept me from bed for a good few hours after saying hello to 2010. Or maybe it was the drink.

Favourite clues are in blue.
