A pleasant enough stroll for a Thursday morning, very friendly for newer solvers, and very reminiscent of the Everyman puzzle from the Observer newspaper, presumably the same setter. Setting these puzzles does require a particular skill, despite what many may think, and our compiler today demonstrates this very well.

I quite enjoyed the crossword when I did it, but when I started writing it up and realised just how much first and last letters are used, and the fact that there are 12 anagrams in 30 clues I began to change my mind… The Thursday crosswords seemed to be getting better over recent weeks, this one seems like a step backwards. Anyway feel free to leave a coment.
Hopefully the hint should give you all you need to get the answer, but if you still have a problem highlight the space between the curly brackets.

A very gentle puzzle that, I thought, shouldn’t cause any problems. If you know differently then let me know.

I quite enjoyed this when I solved it, and have stuck with my four-star rating. While writing the review I realised that there is a surfeit of charade/word-sum type clues.

This Crossword is specially themed for the General Election and mentions the three main parties and their leaders as well as a smattering of other politically oriented terms. I have highlighted, in green, the seven main clues. Expect a protest from the Scottish and Welsh Nationalists, as they are not included.

A much better puzzle today from one of Thursday’s mystery setters. I almost feel deprived as there is nothing much to complain about!

A run-of-the-mill puzzle from Thursday’s mystery setter. Comparatively easy, and lacking in inspiration – let me know if you feel differently.

On mystery Thursday we have another mediocre puzzle that will probably please many of you. I counted, and have indicated, fourteen clues where all or part of the wordplay involve anagrams, and two hidden words. Once upon a time the Telegraph style guide used to recommend “a maximum of six anagrams per puzzle and only one hidden”.
I would like to repeat, for those who don’t seem to have bothered to read the disclaimer, that any statement, opinion, or view in relation to any person or organisation expressed in this post is purely personal to Big Dave.
You are welcome to disagree with anything I have written and friendly debate is strongly encouraged.

Libellule has moved, from next week, to take on Rufus every Monday.
Thursday is our mystery day and, unsurprisingly, no setter has owned up to any of these mundane puzzles! This one does has one or two better clues, 17 across for example.

An easier crossword than yesterday in my opinion. with generally good surface readings. However there is a real mixture of clue quality, the worst for me being 23d or 13a, whilst the extra star (two stars has been usual for a while) for enjoyment is for 1a.
If you highlight the space between the curly bracket, you will reveal the answer. Please leave a comment, and I hope the CC enjoy this one.
