Zandio a bit trickier today (to me) quite a few 16d references, but please don’t mention the war, I had to, but I think I got away with it. John Cleese/Basil Fawlty©

14a and 14d clues today and I have hinted half. I  hope you find enough checkers to finish, but I will try and give a nudge if you are struggling – just ask.

Gemini has been hallucinating again: when I submitted the instructions, I was told: “This preamble belongs to a notable Inquisitor puzzle (IQ 1639) by Pandiculator titled ‘Clockwise’, which was originally published in April 2020.”Continue reading

Sunday Telegraph Cryptic No 3351 (Hints)

Hints and tips by Senf

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where however much snow landed on us during the blizzard that we experienced a week before Christmas is being ‘topped up’ on a regular basis.

I hope that all those who ‘experienced’ Storm Goretti survived the ordeal.

For me, and I stress for me,© Dada very friendly with four long ‘uns, four anagrams (two of the long ‘uns and one partial), two lurkers, and no homophones in a symmetric 28 clues; with 14 hints ‘sprinkled’ throughout the grid you should/might be able to get some of the checkers to enable the solving of the unhinted clues. I hope you have your Crimson Tomes at hand!

Remember that Reading the Hints before commenting can be beneficial!

If it is some time since you read, or if you have never read the instructions in RED below the hints then please consider doing so before commenting today as my electronic blue pencil is at the ready and the Naughty Step is OPEN!

The grid-fill was easier than the parsing, but I think I have got there eventually. I have hinted 12 of 28 clues today, so I have scope for a nudge or two if you (8d) Just ask.

The anagram at 12a needs careful checking of the fodder to find the player as his instrument has been renamed over time.

I hope you get the checkers to finish this fine puzzle and envelop the Welshness.

Short Kind of Party Dress by The Ace of Hearts

Hints and tips by Phibs

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

Today, in the words of Bonnie Tyler, “It’s the Heart Ace.” I decided to give Claude something specific to get his virtual teeth into, so I asked, “A themed crossword puzzle involves a single keyword which could be cryptically described as ‘short kind of party dress’. What might this word be?”

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where Boxing Week (when did that become a thing?) sales, some of which started before Christmas, are still in progress!

For me, and I stress for me,© Dada quirkily friendly again with, unless I miscounted, seven anagrams (three partials), two lurkers, and one homophone in a somewhat asymmetric 29 clues; with 15 hints ‘sprinkled’ throughout the grid you should/might be able to get some of the checkers to enable the solving of the unhinted clues. I hope you have your Crimson Tomes at hand!

Not the trickiest Beam today, with a generous 16a and 16d clues today, and I have hinted half. I hope you find the checkers to finish. I will try and give an extra nudge if you are struggling.

Cold cuts and the cheeseboard for lunch today. I hope you are not snowed under by leftovers.

Having consulted our friend Gemini I was offered several candidate sets to consider: days of the week / months of the year, the seven dwarfs or seven deadly sins, noble gases or chemical elements, musical notes (do, re, mi…), planets in the solar system, greek alphabet letters.Continue reading
