Congratulations to Pete Cohen who was the winner of this month’s prize of one of Hamlyn’s Telegraph Puzzle Books [Pete has declined the prize, which will be carried over to the may competition.  BD].  His name was drawn from the electronic ‘hat’ by Mrs BD as he was one of the solvers who had correctly spotted all the excuses (6d’s) that are used for travel  delays (listed at the end of the review) –  our Prolixic being a person who commutes to work by train, I am sure he has heard these many more times than he would like!

Welcome to the review of February’s Prize Puzzle set by Radler.  The person whose name was drawn from the electronic hat as this month’s winner was Franco (Franky Watts).  Congratulations to him.

10 of the solutions in the crossword encoded 8 numbers from a set of 90.  Solvers had to add the numbers together go get the correct solution.  The numbers in question were identified in the grid by reference to bingo numbers.  The relevant solutions are highlighted in blue below.

Many thanks to Radler for keeping us entertained.  The next MPP will be published on Saturday 2 March.

Congratulations to Keith Williams, the lucky person whose name I ‘drew’ out of the electronic ‘hat’.   He wins a choice of two of the great Telegraph puzzle books published by Hamlyn Books as he correctly worked out that the missing American Vice-President was Rockefeller.   As the instructions state, not only is Rockefeller missing from the list, but there isn’t an 11 letter solution in the grid so he wouldn’t have fitted in anyway.

Alchemi provided an interesting challenge for the January puzzle competition –  I bet I wasn’t the only solver to think we were looking for Presidents of the USA before realizing we needed some of the Vice-Presidents!   .  I have marked the themed solutions  in green.

As always, thanks to our sponsors, Hamlyn Books. Do take a moment to look at some of their publications below Continue reading “MPP – 008 (Review)”
