A very good Wednesday morning from Winnipeg where some are celebrating the events of two days ago and some are not, especially the two major party leaders who lost their seats!

For me, etc (I have to say that for Terence), a reasonably straightforward and entertaining midweek puzzle which I am suggesting, with the absence of the Reverend W A Spooner, is the work of Hudson.  Whomsoever it is, thank you.

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where Springtime temperatures are fluctuating quite considerably – 20 degrees yesterday and 9 degrees forecast for Wednesday.

For me, and I stress for me, Dada almost as friendly as Cephas was yesterday!  Three longish ‘uns, seven anagrams (four partials – three of three letters and one of four letters!!), one lurker (reversed), and two homophones all in an almost symmetric 27 clues; with 14 hints ‘sprinkled’ throughout the grid, you should be able to get the checkers to enable the solving of the unhinted clues.  And, remember, my electronic blue pencil is at the ready and the Naughty Step is OPEN!

Candidates for favourite – 12a, 13a, 21a, 25a, 1d, 6d, 9d, and 14d.

As is usual for the weekend prize crosswords, a number of the more difficult clues have been selected and hints provided for them.

A Happy St George’s Day and a very good Wednesday morning from Winnipeg where, on Sunday, we exceeded 20 degrees for the first time since October 20th last year – six months!

For Manders, not a Pink-Footed Goose in sight, about 130kms West of Winnipeg and nowhere near a sea or ocean.

For me, etc (I have to say that for Terence), an entertaining midweek puzzle which could be the work of Twmbarlwm, we haven’t ‘seen’ him for a few weeks, or someone else.  Whomsoever it is, thank you.

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where we are four weeks into an election campaign which feels more like four months!  One week to go.

For me, and I stress for me, at times during the solve I was not sure that this is a Dada production at all but I concluded that it is – two long ‘uns, six anagrams (no partials), one lurker, and no homophones all in a slightly asymmetric 28 clues; with 14 hints ‘sprinkled’ throughout the grid, you should be able to get the checkers to enable the solving of the unhinted clues.  And, remember, my electronic blue pencil is at the ready and the Naughty Step is OPEN!

Candidates for favourite – 20a, 25a, 6d, and 21d.

A very good Wednesday morning from Winnipeg where, after a pizza and ice cream cake, with seconds, lunch accompanied by two pints of mild I thought I might be too soporific to be able to solve and blog today’s puzzle on my Tuesday evening.  Fortunately, it seems that the setter was psychically sympathetic to my situation and has provided a relatively straightforward puzzle.

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg where my ‘heavy’ winter jacket is ‘on its way’ to the back of the wardrobe – tentatively – and the ‘lighter’ spring jacket got its first ‘outing’ on Thursday, but there is still a need for the Red Scarf and it is not being consigned to the back of the sock drawer yet.  However, yesterday, going out for a Dim Sum lunch, my ‘extra light’ windbreaker jacket came out as the temperature climbed towards 17 degrees, but that may not last.

For me, and I stress for me, Dada quirkily friendly again, naturally with his own thesaurus at hand – two long ‘uns, six anagrams (three partials), one lurker, and two homophones all in a slightly asymmetric 30 clues; with 15 hints ‘sprinkled’ throughout the grid, you should be able to get the checkers to enable the solving of the unhinted clues.  And, remember, my electronic blue pencil is at the ready and the Naughty Step is OPEN!

Candidates for favourite – 1a, 12a, 26a, 2d, 4d, 9d, and 21d.

As is usual for the weekend prize crosswords, a number of the more difficult clues have been selected and hints provided for them.

A very good Wednesday morning from Winnipeg where, as suggested by the Clipart above, today is my 500th blog; totally eclipsed by Crypticsue, Gazza, and Prolixic of course, but, among the mere mortals, doing quite well – 426 Sunday Puzzles, including the first Sunday Toughie, and 74 assorted SPPs and Back Pagers.… Continue reading

A very good Wednesday morning from Winnipeg where Spring has sort of sprung, almost, but the grass hasn’t riz yet, and the only birdies I have seen in significant numbers are the eponymous geese returning from their winter break.… Continue reading
