Most of this went in pretty quickly, but I got caught having to think carefully about a few tricky answers that took a little while to reveal themselves to me. Favourite clue today has to be 28a for the misdirection and surface reading.

For me this was a return to normal for Monday, with a very enjoyable and typical Rufus offering.

For some strange reason, I really struggled with some sections of this, but when I wrote the blog I couldn’t see why. On reflection it seems to be a fairly typical Rufus offering. Perhaps the cause of the problem is down to the awful grid?

Not quite sure what to say about this… except that where some of the weaker clues pulled it down (e.g. 13d), 14a made up for them.

Bonjour from a very soggy solver south of the Loire, we had the sort of rain that the UK has been receiving this summer, some 50+mm yesterday. Anyway at least I now have some sunshine and the crossword to cheer me up.

Quote from grumpy old man, “a few too many first/starts and close/ends for my taste”. However I did find this pretty tricky for a Tuesday. Last one in was 11a, if anyone has a better explanation for this please feel free to add your comments to the blog.

Fun crossword, but not overly difficult, pretty typical for a Rufus on Monday.
