Good morning from The Hundred Acre Wood. Piglet and I enjoyed this puzzle which produced smiles and groans along the way. How strange to begin at the end. We both agree that it is only a crossword puzzle, a pastime, a mere bagatelle, a fleeting moment in life that will be soon forgotten. Continue reading “DT 29133”

It’s only a crossword. What more can be said? Well Big Dave noticed this. Take a look at the letters that form the top and bottom rows of the cryptic puzzle and then have a look at The Quickie Pun. Continue reading “DT 29121”

Thanks to Miffypops and the 2Kiwis for swapping days. This enabled me to attend the funeral of my best mate Pete, who passed away earlier this month just a week short of his 74th birthday. I had to leave at 6:00 am in order to get to the crematorium in time, and made it just in time for the 9:30 am service. BD
When solving this I smiled at several of the images suggested formed by consecutive answers. 1ac and 5ac for example. 9 and 11 ac. 22 and 23ac. 16 an 19d. 14and 10d. As usual Jay has come up trumps with a superb puzzle which I thought was a tad harder than those of the previous two days. Continue reading “DT 29117”

Some years ago I spent about three weeks struggling through a Beam Toughie ending up with one unsolved clue of four letters with two checkers. I puzzled over that clue several times a day for many weeks. In desperation I typed the clue into Google and found Big Dave’s Crossword Blog. I would never have thought that one day I would write the hints for a Beam toughie. Well that day has arrived and it is thanks to Big Dave and his team of bloggers that I can sit here confidently writing these hints and tips. Continue reading “Toughie 2269”

Every year Saint Sharon organises a Family Weekend, so our families get together for a reason that isn’t to do with funerals. Four generations gathered from Barrow-In-Furnace to Lowestoft. Oswaldtwistle to Kenilworth. A great time was had by all. As usual it all got a bit messy last night until several of the boys were sent to bed by Saint Sharon at 2.30am this morning. . . My day so far. Wake up just before 7.00am. Download The Daily Telegraph. Read the paper from end to end. Make a pot of tea. Discuss September’s holiday with Saint Sharon. Where should we stay for two nights on our way home from Scotland (suggestions welcome). Pour two cups of tea. Solve the Codeword puzzle. Solve the Quickie Crossword. Start on the Cryptic Crossword. Chatter away with the sainted one whilst lazily solving away. Then the lightbulb moment. I have to blog this today as the 2Ks are otherwise engaged. So stop dawdling and do so. Here is the result. Due to the site being updated our guest reviewer Tarzan of the Apes has had to be stood down for this week as Miffypops returns to his rightful spot to review a jolly nice puzzle which wasn’t at all taxing but raised a few smiles along the way. The gutting of the new house is coming along at a great pace. The gas fires and gas cooker come out tomorrow. I wonder how long it will take me to fit the new kitchen. Watch this space.
