Bet you didn’t expect to see us back in the blogging chair quite so soon. Bufo was not available so we stepped up to review a Toughie for a change.

There’s a theme here that you’ll probably guess from the heading. A couple of new words for us and good fun all the way through.

Hola from a warm and sunny Los Alcázares. Our last clients went home early Tuesday morning and the next ones don’t arrive until this evening so pommette and I get a to have three day holiday. The only problem being that it’s been windy enough to blow a dog off its chain.  As to the crossword I’m certain it’s a RayT production and one I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble with.  There’s a few gimmes and some anagrams to give a good start but watch out for some quite clever bits of misdirection.  I really enjoyed it and thought it the best RayT for some time so have given it a fifth star.  However it might just be that I’m in an exceedingly good mood ‘cos I’m on hols. Morning All! This was a tad more difficult than recent Sunday puzzles but nothing that couldn’t be unravelled. Some fine surface readings added to the confusion which is always a good thing. Continue reading “ST 3009”

It took me a little while to get going on this one but once I’d established a base camp in the SW corner it all proceeded in a serene fashion with no great problems. It’s very enjoyable with smooth clues throughout as we’ve come to expect from this setter. Thanks Silvanus. Continue reading “Toughie 2256”

Kia ora from Aotearoa.

Our spell of clear frosty weather has taken a break. Rain is forecast for later in the day but we still managed to complete our usual morning beach and estuary walk in the dry.

Jay has given us some more of his scrumptious anagrams today and all the usual Wednesday fun.

Hello, everyone, and welcome. Today’s puzzle feels different in style to recent Tuesday offerings.  Perhaps it’s a new setter (or an old setter with a new hat)?  In either case, if our setter is reading please introduce yourself with a comment below.  We all love it when setters comment.  As for the puzzle itself, I started out slowly, but once I realized that this setter likes cryptic definitions, my progress accelerated and the grid fill came together smoothly with many smiles along the way.  A very enjoyable puzzle with impressively concise clues.
