One of the problems with themed puzzles is that if the theme is cracked early on then the rest falls into place very quickly. This was certainly the case for me. The surface readings of the clues with the thematic answers are well-chosen to fit the stories associated with those places.

There must have been lots of entries for this week’s prize puzzle as it was extremely easy and in some places hardly cryptic at all.

I was obviously not on good anagram-solving form this morning because I made heavy weather of 3 of the 4 long anagrams. As a result this puzzle took me longer than it should have done. I suspect that anyone who solved these anagrams quickly would have found this to be a fairly simple puzzle.

Another splendid start to Sunday morning. My top favourites were 6a and 5d but there were lots of runners-up.
