This excellent Sunday puzzle had everything you expect from Virgilius and more – all his trademark clues and a topical reference too.

Greetings from Ottawa where snow is piled high everywhere but it is finally beginning to feel like spring is just around the corner.
Today’s puzzle has all the earmarks of a RayT creation — a bit of innuendo and an appearance by Her Majesty. I enjoyed solving the puzzle but when it came to writing the review, I realized that there does seem to be a rather generous dose of anagrams and charades used in the puzzle.

Petitjean’s quirky style tends to divide opinions; I am firmly in the camp of those who enjoy his puzzles. This one ranges far and wide with references to literature, opera, films, radio, food, football and cricket. Some of the wordplay requires a fair bit of thought, but that’s why it’s a Toughie.

Quite straightforward today, with only a handful at the end taking a little longer. A 2-2.5* for difficulty and 3* for enjoyment. Thanks to Jay (at least I think it’s Jay).

I found that explaining the wordplay for a couple of clues took as much time as the rest of the puzzle, and on that basis have gone for 3-star difficulty rather than 2-star.

Thanks to Deep Threat for doing a swap with me this week – he’ll be here on Friday. I solved most of this puzzle in 2* time or less but was held up by my last couple of clues in the NW quadrant so I ended up giving it 3* for difficulty. How does that correspond with your experience?

Bright and sunny south of the Loire this morning, but its still a bit cold. A typical Monday morning crossword from the maestro (on a par with last weeks difficulty wise – I think), offering the usual high quality of clues with added entertainment.
