Why not have a go at our latest Monthly Prize Puzzle?
The winner will receive their choice of any of the Telegraph Crossword Books.
Please note that, due to punitive postal charges, while the competition is open to all, the prize is only available to UK solvers.
A review will follow after the closing date (15th September 2018).
The competition is now closed
The puzzle is available by clicking on the above grid.
Please read the instructions carefully.
You should know when you have correctly determined the nature of the common property shared by all the answers.
I’ve left this post open for comments, but if you don’t want your comment to be deleted then do not provide any help for other solvers or mention any detail about the puzzle, especially references to individual clues, until after the closing date.
Researching my answer almost took longer than solving the puzzle but think I have got it sorted. Fingers crossed that I’ve got it right.
Good fun with both the solve and the research.
Thanks Bufo.
Bother! As soon as I had submitted my answer I realised I had made a mistake. I have now sent an amended entry and hope I got it right this time.
Well, I have solved the puzzle now I have two weeks to solve the riddle!
A quick comment, the enumeration of 27a should be (8).
Thanks Bufo.
Thanks – it is now!
The penny has dropped, I think, so I will have to find something else to do for the rest of the two weeks.
This entertaining puzzle had a complete spectrum of difficulty with some clues going straight in and some putting up quite a fight. I’ve got a completed grid with everything parsed and I learnt a few new words along the way.
I got the answer to the second question very quickly but I am still struggling with the first. I’ll keep persevering.
Many thanks, Bufo.
Clang! Got it!
Thanks again, Bufo. I’m full of admiration that you could set a puzzle of this quality particularly given the constraints you have needed to work to regarding the “property”.
A proper treat – I do like a Bufo crossword
Puzzle solved yesterday afternoon but it took overnight cogitation before the obvious became obvious and I could submit my entry
I’m staring blankly at a full grid – maybe, a bit of “overnight cogitation” will reveal the answers?
Never knew that Bufo was a compiler – enjoyed it very much. Thanks, Bufo.
He has already set 10 puzzles in the NTSPP series, and an 11th due next month.
Hmm? Never seen Bufo as the setter of an NTSPP before!
Does alcohol effect one’s memory?
I’m sorry what was the question again 😆
I can’t remember – but it definitely affects one’s use of English.
If the genius or the transcendent capacity of taking the task of solving this entertaining puzzle was a one per cent inspiration, the task of solving the riddle will definitely be a ninety-nine per cent perspiration, at least for me. Many thanks, Bufo. I will keep persevering with my research during the next two weeks.
Some new words to me have added to my research and some were only solved after a guess at the property. Lets hope my guesses are not way out.
A large drink required I think.
Very good, Bufo and quite tough. I think I got there in the end though.
Thanks for the entertainment.
OK – you led me down the doubtless intended garden path for quite a while, Bufo! Think I found you out in the end but we’ll have to wait and see.
Learned a few new things along the way but they will no doubt trip me up again and again.
Thanks for the challenge – nice to see you in the MPP slot.
The closing date has passed.
Looking forward to the solution.
Thanks in advance!
I don’t think we have sorted out who is due to write it!
…. and I forgot to pick a winner.
Watch this space.
