On the trickier side of an average Saturday Prize Puzzle – given some of the solutions, one could wonder whether NY Doorknob was taking to alcoholic drink in order to ignore the effects of 17d/8a

  1. I still don’t understand 17a, which kept me worried all week, although I knew the answer was correct. I get the ‘E’, ‘Slope’ and the ‘C’ – but where does the ‘A’ come from?
