Please note that, due to punitive postal charges, while the competition is open to all, the prize is only available to UK solvers.

A review will follow after the closing date (19th April 2014).

I’ve left this post open for comments, but if you don’t want your comment to be deleted then avoid asking for or giving help with the clues.

  1. Have completed the puzzle but still working on the answer to the question. Bit of a challenge that. I can see what I suspect is the answer but need further thought before submitting. Good fun.

    1. Don’t worry about it – we already have an admission of guilt (the obvious culprit is stanXYZ – he just said he was the one who dunnit!)
I’m quite a long way off getting to grips with this one.
Back tomorrow, or the next day or . . . .

  2. Finally got the clue that has been eluding me. The grid may be complete but the mystery remains unsolved so far.

    1. I’m afraid that after hours of working at it the answer to the question, “Can you solve the mystery?” in still unfortunately “NO”.

      1. I hope I am not going to be told off for saying this, but all you need to help you solve the mystery is to look at the title of the puzzle!

      2. Thanks to both of you for trying to be helpful. I’m sure the penny will drop eventually and I don’t want you to give things away that could spoil it for others. Besides, I have learnt a lot about a game that I have never played. Bed time now, perhaps inspiration by the morning. Cheers.

    1. Based on my experience, solving the crossword is not too difficult. But, I am going to go cross-eyed staring at the grid trying to solve the mystery.

    2. Well, I now have a plausible collection of letters that appear to solve the mystery; so, entry sent!

  3. Well at long last I reckon that I have the question answered. However as I had some extra help along the way have decided not to submit an entry this month.
Thanks for the challenge Prolixic, enjoyed the puzzle, some really clever clues.

  4. The mystery remains just that for me. I have an inkling I might have part of the solution, but that’s about it. Not giving up just yet.
