Two Today!

Big Dave’s Crossword Blog celebrates its second birthday today!

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

Two years have passed and the success continues.  This month is already the best month ever, and there are still four days to go.

I would like to thank the team of bloggers – I couldn’t do it on my own – and all of you out there who make the blog such a lively and vibrant forum.

My biggest thank you, as always, goes to those who set the crosswords found in the Daily and Sunday Telegraph – without you we would have nothing to write about!

  1. Congratulations to all who contribute to such an excellent blog especially Big Dave and all his team, I have been using the blog for 6 months now after finding it by accident and my comprehension of clues and answers has increased tenfold.
    Happy Birthday !!!. :D. :D.

  2. Well done to Big Dave and his team! I have been following this blog for most of that two years and I have learned so much. I have been to other crossword blogs which have been helpful but none of them match this high-quality, well-laid out blog.

As other contributors to this blog have previously pointed out, the format of hints with a hidden answer that can be revealed is unique. Big Dave deserves huge praise for his genius in coming up with this unique format.

Congratulations to all involved with this blog.

  3. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you…… You are doing a wonderful job. Many thanks.

  4. Hear, hear! Congratulations to Dave and the team, you certainly keep us setters on our toes! Thanks also to the many others who take the time to comment on the puzzles, your bouquets and brickbats are very helpful.

  5. Congratulations and thank you for all your help over the last year or so since I found you.

  6. A giant thank you to you, Big Dave, and everyone else for transforming my crossword solving life. Did you really think when you started that two years on you would have had over 2.5 million page views.

  7. Another splendid achievement. Thanks to BD, and to all the contributors for all their hard work.

  8. Happy second birthday and congratulations. I am a relevant newcomer to the blog but find it very helpful and informative, also enjoy the ‘banter’ between participants.

  9. Fantastic acheivement. Hope that there will be several glasses raised in Derby tomorrow to celebrate.

  10. Congrats, Big Dave! I only recently started to look at your great blog and the quality of comments I read here is testimony to your achievement: to attract those readers/writers you gotta be good!

    Well done!

  11. Happy Birthday . Thank you to all connected with this fantastic site that has been so so helpful in my understanding. Simply the best crossword site out there. Keep up the tremendous work you all do.

  12. 2 years already!! Where do the years go?!!
Wow!! Happy Birthday and Congratulations on a fantastic site from Me & HotLips xx

  13. Many congratulations Big Dave, a blog well worth using and a help to many including myself. I can remember the early days when I complained constantly about various clues and phrases, All part of the learning curve and a sign of your great tolerance and help that you didn’t block my input but let me rant on, learning all the time. I thank you immensely for that.
    Have a pint on me.

  14. Congratulations! Thanks to Big Dave and all the other bloggers and the setters (especially those who drop in to comment and those who provide the NTSPPs) and the commenters who make it such an interesting place to hang out and also to everyone who digs out the pictures and YouTube clips that so amusingly or informatively illustrate the blogs.

  15. Congratulations Big Dave, and a big thank you to all that contribute to the blog to help me and countless others raise their game as cruciverbalists.

I shall raise a glass or two this evening to you all!

  16. Congratulations and happy 2nd birthday BD.; Your ingenuity in setting up the site is verified by the comments already left – thank you. Also, thank you to all setters, bloggers and commenters – it makes this a site well worth spending time visiting, reading and commenting.

I think that all who take part appreciate the work and effort you have put in to it – it is one of the best designed sites of any type – thank you.

  17. Happy Birthday to you
    Happy Birthday to you
    Happy Birthday Big Dave
    Happy Birthday to you

… and thank you very much for the daily entertainment and crossword education. Couldn’t manage without you and the rest of the bloggers.
    Cheers everyone :-)

  18. Glasses of bubbly should be raised, but I haven’t got any, so will a glass of red do?

Well done BD and many thanks. Without this excellent resource, I’d still be getting just two or three answers a day!

  19. Congratulations and thanks to Dave and all the bloggers who now support him.

I have said before that I have struggled in the dark for many years trying to understand solutions to clues that I could not solve whilst wondering if I was alone.

All becomes clear with the help of this blog particularly as you go the extra mile by including each clue to avoid the need to have the crossword to hand.

Perhaps it is time for the paper to add reference to the blog alongside the help phone number underneath each crossword.

Finally a big thank you to all the compilers for continuing to provide our daily challenges.

  20. What else is there to say that hasn’t already been said?
Happy Birthday and please, please, please keep up the good work. Through this site I have progressed from uselsss (not even IN the CC) to being JOCC and even being able to do a whole crossword on my own now with Pommers help!
So thanks to all the Sloggers and Betters for your crosswors, hints and persevation with those of us who have to ask “daft questions” every now and then.

  21. Well done BD. Since I discovered your site about 3 months ago I have come on in leaps and bounds. Could nearly always manage the DT cryptic but the ST cryptic and Telegraph Toughie often left me frustrated and clueless. Now, through the help of your bloggers, I have achieved the right mind-set and can often complete at least two thirds, if not all, of these puzzles on my own, with the knowledge that you are there to help with the final demonic clue. Many thanks to you all.

          1. Very slow on the uptake but finally I now understand G-GAG! I got my ukulele out and followed gnomethang’s instructions!

              1. I have a ukulele too, mine is very old inherited from an elderly relation, in its original hard case, I have never tried to play it, sticking to guitar and flute!

            1. A bit of a misdirection, I only have a guitar – but I would love to play the ukelele. Ever since I saw Joe Brown playing “I’ll See You in My Dreams” at George Harrison’s Tribute at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2002. I can’t seem to find it anymore on YouTube – Any help please?

                  1. Mary and BD, Thanks for your efforts. I wonder why the Albert Hall version is no longer available on YouTube? Great song and performance by Joe Brown (and of course his Bruvvers!)

  22. What more can I say, just thank you once again, for the blog and your immense patience, when the questions I sometimes ask must seem so stupid! I found the blog just after I started doing these and I think I was welcomed on by Gazza, not sure though, I didn’t realise then that the blog had been going only a few months, it has come on in leaps and bounds with my progress not far behind due to all the help I have been given, this last month or so has seen quite a few new ‘faces’ who have come out of hiding, brilliant, ‘things can only get better’, now who sang that? Gnomey????

  23. Dave,

Congratulations on the second anniversary of your blog. It is truly an honour to be able to contribute to your site. And many thanks to you for all your invaluable encouragement as I was establishing my own blog here in Canada.

    Falcon
