Two clues turned this Shamus puzzle, for me, from a 3* to a 4* for difficulty – 14a which was the last to go in and which I’d have got much quicker if I’d realised earlier that it contained the one letter necessary to turn the puzzle into a pangram, and 30a which I made much more difficult by foolishly writing in 23d as a noun rather than a verb. Let us know how you got on in a comment.
If you need to see the answers, they are hidden between the brackets under the clues. Just drag your cursor through the white space between the brackets to reveal one.
One of Rufus’ easier crosswords today – I think. If I hadn’t initially put Victoria in at 2d it would have been a “one or two stopper” to quote Prolixic. But that still doesn’t stop it from being entertaining and a fun crossword to do.
If the hints don’t help, just highlight the space in the curly brackets to reveal the answer.
Today the CluedUp site was ported to a different server. Unfortunately, as Gazza reports elsewhere, it seems to be powered by a Sinclair ZX-80.
I will be out for the rest of the morning, so today’s blogs may be a bit late. In anticipation of problems, we have secured, courtesy of Phil McNeill, copies of the two puzzles, together with the Quick crossword.
Its been months (Nov 29 2009 to be exact) since we had a ScrewedUp News post. However there is one for today. On the “Home” page you have a list of puzzles, unfortunately the Quick GK (132) is last weeks.… Continue reading
Does anybody else who uses ScrewedUp have a feeling of deja vu? I printed out the Sunday Quick Crossword No. 79 and realised that it was exactly the same as last Sunday’s No. 78. I hope the one in the newspaper is different.… Continue reading
03-08-2009 – As Libellule reports, this was corrected at some time today.
The site has been relatively well behaved in recent weeks, apart from an occasional glitch with the numbers on Codewords, the random presentation of the wrong grid which is corrected when you try again and the ever-present poor performance which becomes intolerable at certain times of the day.
Today Libellule reports that the Quick GK – No. 106 provides the clues but no grid. This applies to both the playable and printable versions.
Just to be awkward, this has now been changed to (3,3,5,4), even though Chambers gives it as (3-3-5,4)!
My entry was also reset as if I had never completed the puzzle!
I bet you thought that ScrewedUp News had ceased publication! The website has been much better of late, and the last issue was over a month ago. Today DT 25949 had given the wrong length for 15 across.
Late news – Mrs BD, optimistically confident that the Codewords couldn’t be wrong again this week, has found that it is wrong!
Yes, that’s right, there’s a problem with the squares numbered 1 yet again.
May 02 – 14.30 – Giant GK 12260 is available online now!
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
Well – you will have plenty of time to stand and stare today without your regular diet of Saturday’s Giant GK Crossword!
