Elgar may have been absent without leave for a while, but he hasn’t been idle. This is a real beast of a puzzle in which it takes ages to work out the reasoning behind the answers. Not for the faint-hearted!

Morning All! This was a Cephas production I feel (Please correct me Mr C if I am wrong!) and had some lovely surface readings that made me smile and the usual varied array of anagram indicators. I struggled at the time due to ‘Birthday Weekend Fatigue’ but upon review it was probably ** difficulty for me.

However, before the RayT-phobes exit the room, let me say that I found it to be rather gentle. This just may be the chance for those who are convinced that they can’t do a RayT puzzle to prove themselves wrong.

When I was notified last evening by my personal Alert Service (Crypticsue) that today’s setter was Micawber I was delighted since, as I may have mentioned once or twice, he is my favourite Toughie setter. I was not disappointed – this is an excellent puzzle with not an obscure word in sight.
