A Puzzle by Isla

Welcome to the latest in our series of puzzles, which have now been running every week for over two years.
You all loved Isla’s debut puzzle, but that was over a year ago. I have persuaded him to have another go, and I’m sure you will enjoy this one just as much.

Debt Crisis
Alchemi returns with a crossword that has, as a theme, the current Greek debt crisis. I was enjoyable to solve though again a little high on the anagram count (Gazza will need to take his shoes and socks off)! My favourite clue was the topical and well constructed themed clue in 15a.

A Puzzle by Bufo
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
Welcome back to Bufo after a long absence with a silky smooth, straightforward and satisfying crossword. It was not especially difficult but was marked out for me by the clean cluing and polished surface readings.

It’s been nearly a year since Bufo’s last NTSPP puzzle – but it was worth the wait!

A Puzzle by Prolixic
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
Another great puzzle from Prolixic – I do think he is sneakily increasing the level of difficulty with every new crossword he produces. For some reason, I found the top half harder than the bottom, but the whole thing was just as enjoyable as usual.

A Puzzle by Omnia
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
This week’s NTSPP was a special one – some of our favourite setters, and a couple new to the NTSPP series, collaborated as ‘Omnia’ to mark the 80th birthday of Rufus (Roger Squires). I found it a reasonably straightforward solve, with a couple of headscratchers just to make you think, and had fun trying to work out who set which clue (see the end of the post for the answer).

By the time that you read this I will be at a party for a very special person. A special welcome to A Clue A Day and Arachne as this is their first appearance in this series of puzzles.

After three crosswords published on the DIY COW site, eXternal makes a welcome debut in the NTSPP series. This was an excellent crossword and I hope that it will be the first of many from him. I have highlighted my favourite clues in blue.

Not the Saturday Prize Puzzle – 104 (Review)
A Puzzle by Radler
+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +
Radler returns with a themed winter crossword that is very appropriate given the current weather sweeping across the country. The key to the crossword is solving 13d which introduces the theme word needed to unlock many of the remaining clues. Even with the theme word cracked, this is a tricky crossword with some complicated wordplay, strokes of genius and Radler’s usual libertarian cluing that reflects his love of some Guardian setters!!

Welcome back to Alchemi with a fun filled feast of anagrams (15) and other clues. The review is a little brief as I am heading off for the Cruciverbalists’ Convention (aka drinking) at the Bridge House.
