We have a pretty gentle easing back into the daily grind after the Bank Holiday. I don’t think that this will cause too many problems. Let me know how you got on.

A Good Run Out

I enjoyed this puzzle from Petitjean and I thought it was pitched at just the right level of difficulty, though its cricketing references may make it a bit trickier for those unfamiliar with the Summer game.

This is a pretty easy puzzle and one which, for me, seemed somewhat mechanical and lacking in sparkle. You, of course, may have thought that it was wonderful – let me know.

This is a fairly routine Giovanni puzzle with a fair sprinkling of proper names. After last week’s Nina I looked carefully for another (but in vain). Let us know how you enjoyed it.

Lots of Good Material

Over the past six Wednesdays I’ve had Toughies from Notabilis, Elkamere (twice), Osmosis, Micawber and Elgar to blog. Impossible to keep up that standard, I thought, but today sees the return, after a long absence, of the wonderful Dada (whom you may know better as Paul, Mudd or Punk from other publications). This is really great stuff but not too difficult – if I have one criticism it’s that the grid is very “cornery” so that it’s essentially four mini-puzzles.

One of the joys of blogging on Tuesdays is that there is no set pattern and I never know what sort of puzzle I’m going to get. I thought that there were some really good clues in this one and I really enjoyed it. How about you?

If it felt like we were being caressed yesterday with a gentle breeze then we have a force 8 gale of a puzzle today which could well have been a Toughie. All the clues are perfectly fair though, even if they do require a considerable amount of perspiration. Let us know how you got on.

I’ve given this one four stars for difficulty because I struggled with a couple of clues (specially 6d), not so much to get the answers as to understand the wordplay. Let us know how you fared.

Thrice Welcome

Elgar doesn’t often stray from Fridays into midweek territory so this excellent puzzle is exceedingly welcome. It’s not as fearsome as some of his but brilliantly entertaining and full of d’oh moments. It also (and I don’t know how he manages to construct a puzzle like it) has a pattern round the outside, which, once you’ve twigged what’s going on, does make it a bit easier.

This puzzle is a bit like Baby Bear’s bed, not too hard but not excessively soft. There are a couple of clues (21d for example) where the answer is fairly obvious but you have to think about the wordplay. Let us know how you got on.

I was in a bit of a rush this morning so it may just be me, but I thought that this was trickier than the standard Friday Giovanni. I’d be interested in your thoughts.

Superb stuff, as always, from Micawber. In terms of difficulty this was perhaps the easiest one I can remember from him but the enjoyment was as good as ever. What did you think?
