Hello, everyone, and welcome. Subscribers to the Telegraph Puzzles Newsletter may have seen today’s 1a highlighted in the Clue of the week announcement “This week's best recent clue, based on feedback from solvers, is from Jim Coulson's Telegraph Crossword of Tuesday, May 24”.  Not quite sure what’s going on there with the flow of time, but it is a good clue and there are several indications that today’s setter is indeed Mr Coulson, aka X-Type.  So thanks go to him for today’s solving pleasure. Hola from the Vega Baja where summer is in full swing with 30+ temps every day this week. Falcon was without electricity for six days after the storm and still has no internet, telephone or TV. Must have been a hell of a storm! That means you’ve got me again this week so I hope you’re not too disappointed.

As to the puzzle, of course it’s a landmark. It’s Daily Telegraph number 30,000 and that’s a hell of a lot of puzzles! There’s a Nina around the outside of the grid to mark the number and I reckon this is one of the best Monday puzzles for some time.  It’s not too hard and it hasn’t needed a load of obscure words to get the Nina in place. I thought it was great and look forward to your thoughts.

A very good Sunday morning from Winnipeg – where we have had a very Spring-like start to the weekend but wetter and cooler conditions are on their way for a few days.

For me, reasonably straightforward and solved with the assistance of a wee dram; no tea cakes this week. … Continue reading

Hello, it’s me again.  Tilsit is keeping the trains running again today.

For the last two Saturdays we have had Cephas pangrams, so I was expecting a Floughie Lady production today but we have another pangram so I must conclude it is three in a row for Cephas.… Continue reading
