I’ve submitted an answer that appears to work but I don’t understand one aspect, so it may be wrong!

That was certainly a challenge but it was a lot of fun. I’ve got one answer unparsed and, like LbR, I’ve submitted an answer for a new word which resolves the problem but without understanding how it relates to how Phibs might have felt after filling the grid.

I have been working at this on and off ever since it came on line and finally think that I have got it all sorted now. Certainly quite a challenge and really good fun.

I solved the crossword and drafted the review yesterday afternoon but had no idea why the word I could change fitted the ‘suggestion’. As this is one of the few MPPs where I can enter the competition, I perservated and have now seen what Phibs is on about. Phew – now I can get on with all the other things I’m supposed to be doing today
Well behind you all – I’m short of two answers in the NE and can’t see how I’m going to fix Phibs’ problem even if those fall!

By Jove! I think I’ve solved it. The NE corner took a very long time!
My admiration goes to Phibs for producing such a very clever puzzle … I felt the same as him when I found the letter to be changed.
I think I had the answer even at half-way through and was satisfied with the real feeling of the word offering a suggestion of what Phibs felt when he had finished filling the grid. Now that my grid is full, I put it mathematically: my satisfaction is 200%. I am highly fascinated by 5a, 14a, 16a, 2d, 5d and 18d. There was overall a lot of fun in the challenge and all credit goes to Phibs for his wonderful creativity. Thank you so much, Phibs.
Phew! Bit of a toughie was that! I have an answer but can’t relate it to how the setter might have been feeling, but maybe if I apply some lateral thinking it might come to me. Favourites were 14a, 31a, 18d, with top marks going to 8d. Thanks Phibs.
