Monthly Prize Puzzle (July 2019)

Similarly Constructed by Phibs

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

Due to the problems on the blog last week, here is our Monthly Prize Puzzle a week late.  Why not have a go at it?

The winner will receive their choice of any of the Telegraph Crossword Books.

Please note that, due to punitive postal charges, while the competition is open to all, the prize is only available to UK solvers.

A review will follow after the closing date (27th July 2019).

The competition is now closed

The puzzle is available by clicking on the above grid.

Please read the instructions carefully.

I’ve left this post open for comments, but if you don’t want your comment to be deleted then do not provide any help for other solvers or mention any detail about the puzzle, especially references to individual clues, until after the closing date.

  1. In retrospect I wondered whether a good dose of lateral thinking could have saved me a lot of work – but I guess I would still have needed to confirm the answer.
I don’t want to count letters and ‘do sums’ again for quite a while – my printed sheet is a sight to behold!

Very well thought out, Phibs, I really enjoyed the challenge.

  2. I always look forward to a Phibs’ puzzle. You know it will be challenging and you know it will be enjoyable. This one was no exception.

Well done, Phibs, and thank you.

  3. Well, I have an answer but I’m still scratching my head on a couple of them and await the review with interest. Thank you Phibs for some great entertainment.

  4. That took me an awfully long time, mainly because I originally had one wrong answer in my completed grid.
Eventually got that sorted and the correct answer was able to be deducted.
    Thanks Phibs, a real challenge.

  5. It was really a stupendous task. Very enjoyable. However, I couldn’t parse 4d to my satisfaction and that might have cost me my answer. To Phibs, tonnes of thanks for the challenge!

  6. I came to this very late as I didn’t have a hard copy until yesterday. I have gone wrong somewhere, but given the time available, I don’t have a snowball’s hope of sorting it out! Nevertheless, I have sent in an answer for better or worse!

Many thanks to Phibs as I have much enjoyed trying to solve this. I’m looking forward to the review to put me right where I have erred. Appreciative thanks in advance to CS.

PS. Is it my eyesight or is that a small typo – ‘Emall’ – below ‘Name’ to post the Comment?
