Monthly Prize Puzzle (June 2017)

Birthday Blog Puzzle by Omnia

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

Why not have a go at our latest Monthly Prize Puzzle?

You may have been wondering what happened to the puzzle that Tilsit put together for the Birthday Bash back in January.  Well, it turned out to be a much bigger task than he had anticipated.  Several clues were never submitted, some were mislaid and others were not deemed to be suitable.  This did enable Tilsit to acquire clues from several top setters, merge them in with the others, and the result is now here for all to see.  Please note that there is more than one correct answer, but only one of them should be entered.  Take care because if more than one answer is submitted the entry will be disqualified.  Although some answers are already known to some individuals, only three people know all of the answers (and they are not allowed to submit an entry).

The winner will receive their choice of a “Crossword Solver’s” book, kindly donated by Tilsit.

Please note that, due to punitive postal charges, while the competition is open to all, the prize is only available to UK solvers, although a Kindle version may be offered as an alternative.

A review will follow after the closing date (17th June 2017).

The competition is now closed

What we have today is a rare sighting of a Telegraph Toughie crossword that does what it says on the tin. A challenging  solve, with plenty of entertainment along the way, requiring a serious amount of thought to both solve the clues and then parse/explain them.   There is a nice helpful Nina which assists when trying to decide whether you are on the right lines with your thoughts on a couple of the Across clues.

Please leave a comment telling us what you thought. Continue reading “Toughie 1823”

Hi everyone.  As Deep Threat is on hols you’ll just have to put up with me doing a bit of deputising.  I have blogged on Friday before but as far as I can see the last one was 27th December 2013 so it’s a fair while since the Don and I locked horns.  This was a pretty fine puzzle with no real obscurities and no religious bits so not one to overtax the little grey cells. I enjoyed it and will be interested to hear your views.

Hello everyone. It’s definitely a Ray T Thursday – it has most of his trademarks although I didn’t notice much innuendo. I thought it was quite tricky but always find it hard to judge difficulty and enjoyment when I know I’m doing the hints so please leave a comment telling us how you got on today.… Continue reading
