DDoS

Probably as revenge because I have deleted routines that were sending out spam emails on 5-6 occasions, the site has been suffering a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) for most of the day.  I have transferred the site to Cloudflare, and I am hoping that normal service will be resumed soon.

Miffypops’ blog has been ready to post since this morning and will added  when the site is more responsive. [Added at 11:50 pm]

Perhaps the time has come to make the site membership only. Don’t know if that would help but it can’t do any harm. Membership on application. Just a thought.

Somehow I don’t think that would help as each request would have to be serviced before being rejected and that was what caused the problem. Over 500 ip addresses were blocked in the first hour of the attack. I find it quite amusing to think that people’s toasters and fridges from all over the world are trying to access the blog.

Toasters are notoriously bad at crosswords, so it makes some sort of sense that they would need help.

          …so I guess it wouldn’t really be fair to block pop-ups? ;-)

When I hear of people making excuses for hackers, like he / she has Asperger’s is so and so, it makes me so mad, well if that is the case do not let them near the computer, if that is their only enjoyment get them some work to do, have people nothing better to do?

I see in the comments for today’s offering that “You announced on Facebook” that there were problems. How do we join this group to see such messages?

Just click on the Facebook link in the sidebar and then “Like” the page.

I really appreciate this blog, and though I only found it recently it is now required daily reading.

Living out in the wilds as we do here, we only get about 3 DTs a week, so if I don’t manage to complete the crossword I often never find out what I should have done, so it is wonderful to find help, entertainment and so much food for thought! It was quite traumatic to lose it on the occasions when it was attacked.

I applaud your patience in getting through the past week or two, it can’t have been easy.
