Not the most difficult of crosswords, but a lot of fun – as always from the Maestro.

Dave Howell is having quite a weekend. Not only did he finish in fourth place in the Times Crossword Championships, he has today become the first person to win our Monthly Prize Puzzle Competition for the second time. He solved the puzzle and then spotted that the football team Charlton Athletic was hidden in the solution. If you couldn’t find it, have a look at the grid at the end of the review.
This month’s prize is an extra special treat – a copy of Mick Twister’s There Was an Old Geezer Called Caesar: A History of the World in 100 Limericks kindly donated by Tilsit and signed by the author.

Greetings from the Calder Valley! It’s Friday and as usual, the difficulty is ramped up with today’s puzzle. Notabilis is back with a nice puzzle to warm up those taking part in the Times Crossword Championships tomorrow. This seemed quite tricky, especially as the big phrases were not ones that your normally see in a puzzle (how many times have you seen Weston Super Mare or Advertisements?). As usual, lots of elegant clues and clever definitions from our setter, demonstrating why he is one of the finest around.

We have a fairly standard puzzle from Giovanni though with a dearth of his usual religious references. I didn’t find it too tricky (though 8d may be a bit obscure if you weren’t a rugby fan some years ago). Do let us know how you got on.

Morning All!. This had the feel of a Cephas puzzle – please forgive me if I am wrong!. It was a pretty good Saturday puzzle – not too easy with some well observed clues as far as I am concerned.
