Very enjoyable puzzle. Thanks Alchemi. Smiles from 27a. Remember 4d with Mary Ford singing The World is Waiting for the Sunrise, thanks (or no thanks) to a sister 10 years older than me who played it all day long!

Interesting trivia from down under… expected 27 Ac to be unsolvable referencing little-known UK pollies (I didn’t even know the Liberal Party existed). Then a double-take, after the answer became clear: in Australia the former Liberal (hard right-wing, not small-l liberal) Party leader was Sir Robert Menzies, nickname “Ming.”

Excellent fun, many thanks for your effort Alchemi. Not too difficult and just the thing to take my mind off this afternoon’s football result and the dreadful cricket.

Favourite has to 18d, but all the clues are good. Please keep them coming like this.
