Cruciverbalists’ Convention (Jan 2012)

Cruciverbalists’ Convention

+ – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – + – +

It’s time once again for a meeting in London so come along and join us at The Bridge House, 13 Westbourne Terrace Road, London, W2 6NG on the 28th January – any time between 12noon and 7.00pm.

All are welcome and, as usual, we have picked a pub that enables you to enjoy a host of real ales.  Click on either of the pictures for further details of the venue.

Only ten minutes walk from Paddington Station

We have reserved tables towards the back of the pub. It is all very accessible, in case anyone has special needs.  The list of possible attendees includes Elgar, Jetdoc, Tilsit, Bufo, Crypticsue, Prolixic, Gnomethang, Alchemi, Hieroglyph, Regalize, Quaiteaux and special guest Derek Harrison, the man behind the Crossword Centre (see sidebar).

Jetdoc has provided the following information:

Google Maps is a bit deceptive — The Bridge House is actually where it shows the Canal Café Theatre, so aim for the red dot shown on this map, rather than the ‘A’ flag.  It’s a 5-minute walk from Warwick Avenue station, and a very pleasant one too, on a nice day.  Also, don’t take any notice of the map on the pub’s website.

Early birds meet at The Mad Bishop & Bear, 1st Floor, Paddington Station (up the escalators above the shops and food court).

Opens at 8:00, serves alcohol from 10:00

This get-together is a joint Big Dave / Elgar / Jetdoc production.

    1. We haven’t done so yet – but are open to someone to organise one!

Tilsit is planning a meet in Yorkshire (Todmorden) in April – more on that later.

    1. Our mutual friend is claiming a clash with work – do you think he is trying to get out of buying me that microbrewery?? :D

      1. If we tell her the significance of the date and the fact that we may be celebrating something momentous, that might entice her to join us.

  1. A note about getting there: Google Maps is a bit deceptive — The Bridge House is actually where it shows the Canal Café Theatre, on the corner of Westbourne Terrace Road and Delamere Terrace, just south of the bridge over the canal basin. It’s a 5-minute walk from Warwick Avenue station, and a very pleasant one too, on a nice day. Also, don’t take any notice of the map on the pub’s website.

      1. I should say — if you’re coming to Paddington main line, or travelling on the Circle/Hammersmith & City line, then walk from there. But if you’re taking the Bakerloo line, I’d advise staying on for one more stop and walking from Warwick Avenue.

            1. I’m an American fan of the blog and Telegraph puzzles — I’ll be in London 23/2 to 5/3….any plans for a meet up around that time???

              1. I’m afraid nothing specific is planned for that time but John H (Elgar / Enigmatist) and his wife Jane host a weekly gathering at a variety of venues and I will pass your details to them.
