A very good puzzle from Prolixic and one that will be accessible to all, I think. I will be reviewing this in a Hint’s ‘n’ Tips stylee at 18:00 tonight but will be able to take questions from the floor if required (apart from during the Christening that I am attending this afternoon.
I agree its a good puzzle. Favourite clues 1/10 33 and 9d
I test solved with Gnomethang so could probably deal with any questions that arise while he is at the Christening.
Another excellent offering from Prolixic. Favourite clue 1/10a.
Off to reward myself with a cup of tea and a slice of warm honey cake which has been cooking whilst I did this puzzle…
That was fun – although knowing 30a was beyond me – I had to look it up. Have to confess although I know of 1a and 1d I try and avoid as much as possible.
I did have a ‘discussion’ with Gnomey and Prolixic about whether 30a would only be known to the young and then I thought that some might consider me ‘old’ and I had heard of them so…..!
Not me!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s never heard of 30a. Also never heard of 9d as a crime (it must be a London phenomenon) – I spent some time trying to work out how stealing could mean angry!
Thanks to Prolixic for a very entertaining puzzle (favourite clue 33a).
Having tweenagers is a great help in keeping up to date with (or enduring through gritted teeth) some music groups.
They say ‘music’ ……
I have managed about 3/4 of this puzzle but have come to a grinding halt!! I’m left with lots of 4-5 letter solutions! I’m particularly intrigued by 14across – such a long clue for a 3-letter solution! 30a is also beyond me – is it a modern pop group? Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys? No – none of the groups I’ve heard of fit!
Goldenduck, Re 14a:
It is a subtraction clue which explains a great deal. The 6 letter word for a theatre/warehouse in Covent Garden is lacking (wants) a short word for spoil.
The definition is Mafioso.
